The Phosphor Safari and Sixth International Workshop on Advanced Spectroscopy and Optical Materials ( PS-IWASOM'2017 ) starts on Sunday, 9 July 2017, and finishes on Friday, 14 July 2017. The Workshop will be held at Faculty of Social Sciences ( Gdańsk University ) in Gdańsk, Poland: ul. Jana Bażyńskiego 4, 80-952 Gdańsk.

Gdańsk is the Polish maritime capital with the population nearing half a million. It is a large centre of economic life, science, culture, and a popular tourist destination. Lying on the Bay of Gdańsk and the southern cost of the Baltic Sea the city is a thousand years old. With its Hanseatic tradition, it has for ages played a major role in the commercial relationships between Northern and Western Europe on the one hand, and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe on the other hand. Today, Gdańsk is the capital of the Pomeranian province and an important administration centre.

By plane:

In recent years, Lech Wałęsa Airport in Gdańsk has become one of the main air transport centres in Poland. The airport provides numerous convenient connections to major European airports. Direct flights to Gdańsk can be checked here

 From Lech Walesa Airport in Gdańsk Rębiechowo you can take a train (best option), taxi or a bus (110, 122, 210, N3).

Train timetable can be found on SKM web page. You start at Gdańsk Port Lotniczy and take a train in direction of Gdańsk Wrzeszcz (some trains go also to Gdańsk Główny). If you want to go directly to conference place you have to alight at Stżyrza railway station (sixth stop). If you want to go to Gdańsk Główny station and you did not cought direct train, you will have to change train in Gdańsk Wrzeszcz (seventh stop), and take SKM in direction Gdańsk Główny (or Gdańsk Śródmieście).
The SKM train tickets – you can buy the tickets in a ticket machine at the railway station or directly from the conductor at the head of the train.

Time table of buses is under links 110 , 210 , N3   (night bus) all buses go to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz. Bus tickets – you can buy the tickets in a bus or in a ticket machine at the bus stop.

By train:

If you want to get to Gdańsk by train you should alight at the station Gdańsk Wrzeszcz or Gdańsk Oliwa. Then you should transfer to a SKM train and alight at the station Gdańsk Przymorze Uniwersytet Gdański. SKM train (SKM) timetables are available on SKM web page. Public transportation

Campus of Gdańsk University is very well communicated with the other parts of Gdańsk and alsoo Sopot and Gdynia. SKM train (SKM) train – is one of the easiest way to transport in Tricity (Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot). SKM train (SKM) timetables are available here . Taxi is the best solution for return from late night parties. It is not too expensive. When taking a taxi, it is better to call a cab than to take one from a taxi rank – you get the right for price reduction.

Money and banking

Polish currency is Polish złoty ( PLN or zł ). The exchange rate of złoty to other currencies is variable, and for example to Euro it can vary from 3 to 4 PLN. So we recommend to check the rate before you visit Poland. You can check current rate here. 1 złoty equals 100 groszy (gr). There are 5 notes: 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 zł. Coins include: 1, 2, 10, 20 & 50 gr, and also 1, 2, & 5 zł.
Currency exchange: If you wish to exchange euro (or other currency) into PLN you have at your disposal exchange desks at border crossings, airports, railway stations, travel offices, hotels and special exchange counters called “kantors”. Traveler’s check can be exchanged at every bank, but not at private exchange counters. No commission fee is charged at kantors. Cash machines are very common.There are many banks in Poland. They are usually open from Monday till Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
